Isn't a HEPA filter enough? What is the difference between a HEPA filter and Active Pure?

Not only does the Pure & Clean use a HEPA filter to trap harmful particles in the air but the ActivePure® Technology actively attacks contaminants in the space. ActivePure uses light waves and a catalytic process to produce super oxide ions and hydro peroxides that destroy contaminants on surfaces and in the air. Put simply, microscopic oxygen and water molecules in the air pass through the ActivePure matrix, exiting as safe but powerful oxidizers that kill contaminants, fungi, mold, and bacteria. The oxidizers not only sanitize the air but as they land on surfaces they destroy contaminants, fungi, mold, and bacteria on those surfaces, as well. 

ActivePure Technology in the Hydroxyl Blaster was recently shown to be 99.98% effective against SARS COV-2 on surfaces in an FDA compliant lab. What other studies have been done to show the efficacy of ActivePure Technology?

How does it sanitize surfaces?

The Pure & Clean by Aerus is based on technology developed by NASA for use on the International Space Station. My space is more than 3,000 square feet. Do I need more than 1 Pure & Clean?

How does it compare with an in-duct system?

The Pure & Clean is superior to an in-duct system for a couple of reasons:

• In-duct systems only sanitize the air when it is actively passing through the duct. In most cases, this is 40-60% of the time. The Pure & Clean sanitizes every moment it is turned on, 24/7. 

• Air passes through an in-duct system so quickly that it often cannot be sanitized. The Pure & Clean pulls air at a rate that allows for complete sanitation.

If it’s such a powerful sanitizer, can I really be sure that it is safe to use around people?

What about operable windows?  Is it good to open them or is it better to keep them closed?
It is recommended to turn the unit off while windows are left open.

What kind of regular maintenance does it require? The Pure & Clean requires minimal maintenance but here is what you will need to do:

• If you leave the machine running 24/7(recommended), periodically turn the machine off to allow the motor to rest

• Filter - Replace as needed depending on environmental factors

• ActivePure Cell - Replace every 2 years 

What is the Warranty on the product? The Pure & Clean has a limited 3-year warranty.

How long has Active Pure Technology been in use for air purification? In the early 1990s, NASA-funded Wisconsin Center for Space Automation and Robotics (WCSAR) began solving the problem of built-up ethylene gas around plants grown in the closed environment of spacecraft, which caused premature plant decay and spoilage. Photocatalytic Oxidation technology was discovered. Over the following decades, improvements were made. By 2009, Aerus invested in ActivePure, the first generation of the technology we use today. Aerus continues to greatly advance the efficacy of ActivePure® and in 2016 were awarded US and global patent protections.
